Uniquely Above Average
Sometimes it feels like the blossom will never come,
And then the flower appears because it was there all along.
Recently I came across my report card from the first grade. Yes, the first grade! My mother saved everything and as I continue to find things that I didn’t know I had; they have held a deep meaning for me. As if my mom is sending me angel messages.
Above is a picture of this report card. You can see leaving first grade, heading into second grade, I was fairly average. A’s my entire academic life evaded me. B+ was the best I could do because after all I was average and C’s were more the norm.
It really wasn’t until I became an adult that I found out I was indeed pretty unique! Just as each and every one of us are. And … shocking to me it was not a bad thing. I wish more time would be spent in schools fostering this important element instead of trying to have everyone try think the same.
In fact, I think the whole grading system adds a lot of stress into the world that doesn’t need to be there…but that’s my opinion.
There are many flowers in my garden that fascinate me. Their uniqueness gives way to their unique personalities. Their unique personalities give way to their beauty.
Similarly, our own unique personalities give way to who we are and what we are. If we allow ourselves to blossom. I thought today I would share with you some ideas of how to do that along with some of my most recent unique flowers from the garden.
Find a place to play. I had to laugh that the one thing on my report card I got an outstanding in was Physical Education. Keep in mind back then our PE was limited to playing on the playground! To know I was considered outstanding at play I suppose is what has carried me the greatest through my life! :)
Expose your shortcomings instead of hiding them.
Heck we all can’t be perfect and trying to be perfect is simply exhausting and a huge time waster!
Lose the haters in your business and your life. They aren’t serving you and are in fact keeping you from where your unique self needs to go. I had a whole lot of repair to do from being taught by teachers along the way who put the “rules” (and rulers if you know what I mean) in front of true learning.
Embrace compliments and notice who you do attract in your life just by being you. Many of us were told not be vain in life but a little vanity and appreciation of yourself can go a long way to build your self confidence!
Honor who you are and enjoy spending quality time with yourself to start each day. I call it Morning Momentum. Lose the excuses why you can’t not do it and you will be surprised and delighted at what you will find within yourself.
Take note what you do in business that makes you feel yourself shining from the inside out.
This is your unique self, performing the work you should be doing more of.
Lead with Self Confidence and Tenacity.Perhaps easier said than done some days. However, once you take your life fully into your own hands to do what matters most to you most hours of your day, things change for the better and you bloom!
