Sweet Dreams
Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.
– Henry David Thoreau
May wraps up this coming weekend with Memorial Day and with that we head towards our hopes and dreams for summer 2021.
What are your dreams for the summer ahead keeping in mind that dreams come in many forms?
For instance, the dreams we have while we are sleeping are pretty much random and can take us in so many directions. What is really interesting, the more I dream, the better and deeper I sleep. I have been sleeping great as of late how about you?
Which leads me to believe that the more we dream about the happiness we want in our lives when we are fully awake, the more fulfilled we are in moving through our days.
Living our life and fulfilling our dreams along the way makes for a sweet life and the definition of a sweet dream.
There can be some, like a xeriscape project we wrapped in the front area of our home this weekend that we (or perhaps just me) had wanted to do for years.
Finally, a couple of months ago we made the decision to bring the dream to life, then found the resources and manpower to make it happen. Today’s picture is the result. We are so loving it! Sweet dream accomplished!
Another type of sweet dream are those long term one’s of personal success that are sacred to us. Of letting our best self, come to life to create a dream that is a part of your soul and lays deep in your heart.
This past week my daughter Bailey received a copy of her new cookbook, Cook. Heal. Go Vegan, in the mail. It was a complete surprise as her publisher had not told her the book was coming and it is not due to be published until August.
Even though she and her husband Steve had worked really hard on creating this cookbook over the past year, doing the writing, recipe testing and all the photography, holding the book in her hands was the culmination of a dream she has held since she was a little girl.
She face-timed me as I was appropriately in the grocery store (one of her favorite places) to share with me the news. It was emotional for both of us because as a parent you hold your children’s sweet dreams in your own heart as well.
Joe Sabah, a mentor of mine for many years told me once that holding your book in your hands for the first time is like holding a newborn baby. And he was right. I have done that with two books so far and seeing Bailey with her book was such a wonderful moment.
I may not be a grandmother yet, but that baby of Bailey’s was such a beautiful moment to witness (catch it on my Instagram feed).
Amazing as all this was, just two days later my son Travis also got the Korean version of his book, The Rock Balancers Guide, in the mail from his publisher. This version seemed like another baby born as well. Dreams coming true for my kiddos that makes life feel so much sweeter!
So, let’s go do some sweet dreaming. I am going to take next week off from the Victory Letter because of Memorial Day and come back to you on June 7th ready to celebrate. Celebrate what you might ask…
20 years if you can believe it, of sending this letter each Monday morning.
Until then have fun with your burning desires and create a plan to bring them to life!
