Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. - Robert Louis Stevenson

Happy Monday!

Any time we try something new, no matter what it is, we are planting a new type of hypothetical seed in our lives in one form or another.

Sometimes it grows exactly as we had expected, sometimes it pleasantly surprises us with something we didn’t expect, and sometimes…it doesn’t grow at all, and can lead to a perceived failure or disappointment.

Many, many years ago I discovered the joy of planting actual seeds in the ground and loved watching them grow as they popped up through the dirt. It led me to all kinds of experimentation in growing a garden that I have come to be extremely passionate about.

And then just a couple of years ago I decided it was time to start experimenting indoors with seeds prior to the outdoor growing season. I had some good success and last year grew over 100 plants indoors in preparation for spring planting after our first frost.

Well, this year I had a complete failure! I used the wrong kind of soil, resulting in losing my very first batch of over 72+ seedlings that never germinated. When I realized my mistake, and that there was no saving the seeds after many weeks, I had two choices, as most of us do when something new doesn’t work out. I could throw it all in the trash and give up, or I could reuse what I had started with adding in other soil amendment and begin again.

I sat on it for about a week because it required a lot of mental energy and reinvesting in more seeds. Not being a quitter, I knew what I had to do and now am happy to report I have many flowers, tomatoes, eggplants and peppers inching their way towards a productive summer season. (I gave a little tour yesterday on Instagram if you want to take a peek).

It took a mental readjustment, absorbing the lesson I needed to learn, and probably most important a desire to see those beautiful and delicious fruits of my labor actually come to life. I know that there will be other disappointments over the course of the growing season but I have found it’s worth the gamble.

What is something new you are wanting to experiment with? What is keeping you going towards making it happen? And what is potentially giving you cold feet that could keep you from moving forward?

Keep planting those seeds so you can watch what is calling to you grow! Seeds in fact equals hope of the possibilities to come.
