Ripping Off The Band-Aid
Given time everything will grow in one way or another…
Sometimes out of nowhere someone or something comes along and rips off a band-aid you might have not even been aware that you were wearing. In other words, the band-aid was masking some kind of pain, discomfort or just an avoidance to change and/or healing.
And one thing for sure with a band-aid, once you rip it off there is usually no putting it back on.
Last night as my husband Ed and I were sitting in our front Zen Garden wrapping up the weekend in conversation, Travis our son (who has been visiting) came home from spending time with a friend.
Now to be sure, this was quite the weekend here in Colorado with snow that started falling Friday afternoon causing a huge amount of action to save our large back flower and veggie garden.
We were exhausted by this point and sat calmly thinking about all we had accomplished in saving the garden and thinking about what we wanted from the week ahead.
This is when Trav began knocking down all the rock balances in front of us, teasing us as he did so. We shared our unhappiness about what he was doing and in his gentle spirited way, he continued to tease us and went on knocking them down.
As some of you know, my son is a very talented rock balance artist
(See his work here). As he ripped off this band-aid of change to the Zen Garden before our very tired eyes, it was interesting to note our discomfort and dismay because all we pictured was the change we weren’t ready for.
And if there is one thing for sure, life and growth is about change.
Just before it got dark, as we sat there, we watched him completely transform the balances to a better and richer state of being. The pictures here in today’s letter is the new art he created.
This brings the question this morning, what is the band-aid you have been avoiding ripping off anywhere throughout your life because you did not want to see what was underneath it?
Remember change equals growth in one form or another.
As we head into this last full week of May, wishing you the peace that comes from accepting what is being placed in front of you. Allowing yourself to make strides towards making a difference in your life and possibly the lives of others as you get clear as to what lies under the band-aid.
Have a great week ahead!
