Love Letters

Love is a slippery slope that we just can’t seem to live without…

This past week I heard someone along my journeys describe the heart as a big warehouse where we keep all of our feelings.

Looking deeper into the power of love, along with the joy it gives us, the confidence and overall happiness, we must also acknowledge the heartbreak of losing love when we have to say goodbye in one form or another to those we love. Most especially, when it seems to come out of the blue. Most especially when it is an eternal goodbye.

This past week whether you are a basketball enthusiast or not it was pretty hard not to feel the heartbreak over the loss of life of Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and the other 7 people who died in their helicopter crash. Especially for those who loved them deeply.

In the honor of honoring love this month, I thought I would start this month’s letter with a challenge. When was the last time you wrote a love letter either to someone else or even to yourself?

After all we do need to truly love ourselves first before we can fully love someone else.

What if you took the time out during this month, starting today to write one love letter every single day to someone or something different? Start with yourself and then write to those people and things that make your heart sing.

What if you even wrote a love letter to a skill set that you possess that sets your heart on fire?

Kobe, I learned this past week wrote a letter like this to his basketball when he knew that he needed to retire from playing the game. The letter got turned into a move and then the movie actually got him an academy award.

If you haven’t seen the movie yet I highly recommend you take a listen above as I share it with you in place of this week’s podcast.

Basically, he took his love for basketball and paid homage to it. He thanked basketball for giving him a life that he was grateful for living. What I loved about this short little few minute movie is that it allowed us to see how he really felt about his love and appreciation for basketball. Amazing how life unfolded to make this message even more powerful now. Again, a strong reminder to pay attention in the moment.

So, what about you? What and who do you love? When was the last time you took the time not to just buy a card with someone else’s words, but with words that spoke of the true love in your own heart.

Are you up for the challenge? I am and would love to have you join me. You can choose whether or not to send the letters. Most important is to feel the letters.

Love is at our core let’s honor it. Sound good? Let me know if you are in.
