Keep On Keeping On

Well my friend, 2022 has arrived with a few painful jabs from 2021 before its departure on Friday.
Last week, Ed and I had taken off for a few days of skiing and relaxation over on western slope of Colorado. Driving home on Thursday friends began calling to share the news of the fires that were beginning to burn in Boulder County and make sure we were okay. One call brought the news that a longtime friend of Ed’s was also extremely ill.
We took a deep breath as we drove out of the mountains, seeing for ourselves the smoke and flames that were engulfing Boulder County, a place we have loved and lived for nearly 40 years. While our home is about 10 miles north of the fires it was as if we were floating through a nightmare as we made our way home.
Crazy thing with life when bad shit happens, you must keep on keeping on. The fires horrifically resulted in 1,000+ families losing their homes, some businesses lost, and heartbreakingly both human and animal lives lost. Ed’s friend did indeed pass away, and even our beloved Betty White died to wrap up the year on Friday!
Now I am not sharing this to depress you out of the gate on this first Monday of 2022. More so I really want to share that bad stuff is going to happen. 2020 and 2021 were great reminders of that as we all know only too well.
This is even more reason why I believe that having goals and something as simple as a word of the year (as I shared last week) is so important. This practice helps to keep us grounded and refocused on what matters most to us. To give us hope and pull us up when life seems to be crumbling all around us.
