Freedom in the Flow

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.

The other morning, I looked at my cell phone and so many things on it had changed literally overnight during a software update. And you know what, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. I had to adjust to the change and yep… go with the flow.

Some changes in life are like that. The seasons, the weather, life and death situations, and all those unknown powers of the universe or some other human factors that make change happen.

These factors got me to further thinking wow, why do we resist change so much, especially when it is in our control much of the time to do something to change our lives for the better?

So, I did a little research and found there is some important factors to understand the cycle of change:

Control – With change we are faced with giving up control of life as we knew it.

Hard – When we do that it is hard to leave the past and present behind as we head towards our future.

Amygdala – Yes that solid wired part of our brain reacts to this with fear. Fear in the number one emotion that can stop us.

No Guarantee - We are fearful because there is no guarantee what tomorrow will bring.

Gain – The question becomes what will be gained or taken away from our life when we encompass this change?

Enormity – Change is in the enormity of all that is possible in our life.

What is the change you are seeking in your life?

This process as it does sometimes for me (and I don’t know why) inspired me to write this little poem:

Freedom in the Flow

Change can happen softly,

Change can happen strong

Change can have a rhythm

And go between right and wrong.

Positive change, negative change

And everything in between

Keeping an optimistic outlook

And knowing what can be seen.

When we try to avoid it all together

Change can take control

Leaving us with consequences

Of how our life will roll.

Evaluate where you are

And where you need to be

Allow the flow of change to happen

And then you truly will be free
