Falling Off The Wagon
Small choice, huge difference. – Sabina Hutchinson
You probably know by now if you know me, and have been ready this letter for any given amount of time, I am for most accounts, a positive person. Heck if not, why would I be writing this letter about finding the small victories in life every week for the last 20+ years.
Well, just as today’s subject line suggests, last week, I feel off the positivity wagon because out of nowhere a stinking anxiety attack blind sited me.
I was just humming along with my day when BAM! The jowls of anxiety jumped in my belly and hung on tight.
Luckily and gratefully, it happened right before my session with my coach Valerie, and she was there to walk me off the ledge. Now the ledge my wagon was sitting on might have only been about a floor up, but it felt so momentous and about 20 floors up in that moment.
Yes, in other words my humanity was showing. And it appeared to arrive because life changes were circling around me that were leaving me perplexed and unsure of some future happenings.
Heck, we all have felt that in one way or another over the last couple of years as the world as we knew it seemed to careen out of control.
For me, last Wednesday, the answer was paying attention to my gut instincts that were there to protect me and having someone there as a sounding board to help make sense of what my gut, heart and head were all trying to tell me all at once.
Music has always been a source of release for me, and the Eagles song Take it Easy came to mind and I will leave you with some of the lyrics I found comforting.
Take it Easy, take it easy
Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don’t even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand and…take it easy.
Take it easy on yourself, make the small choices that will make the big differences and I will too as we cruise through this last full week of January, 2022.
