Changing Times
Last week we started off with a time change without knowing of the dramatic changing times ahead.
Last week transpired to be for all of us an experience not felt in our lifetimes as the entire world changed how we are spending our time in lightning speed!
One of the reasons I have never been a big fan of writing this letter too far in advance is that I always have wanted to write in real time in order to address life as it is happening right now.
Honestly, until the last week I didn’t know the word pandemic existed. Nor did I know that people were so fixated on running out of toilet paper!
Looking towards the brighter side of things like the invention of the quarantini (Gin and EmergenC), and many other elements of our lives that allow us to be in the moment and not get carried down the path towards fear and hysteria.
Let’s be real, the cancelling of so many sports events can be a sport widows dream! While then again having to social distance yourself from everyone can give you so much extra time to get stuff done without the words … “I am too busy” constantly being uttered.
In my case thank goodness for my laptop with a camera and Zoom software so I could continue to connect for business as I need to. In fact, it really has me considering once again how amazing our online world is in keeping us connected, while saving time and environmental resources.
And it forced our political parties to actually have to get along (for a little while) to start to take some action that had been dragging on and on.
The lessons learned have been many, and looking at what it means to be potentially be quarantined from a positive perspective (goodness knows we have to stay positive) it can be summed up like this using the word quarantined as an acronym:
Q – Quality time that we hadn’t planned at home can be good.
U – Understanding our shared humanity,
No one is immune to this virus.
A – Always wash your hands and lose the germs,
Not just during a pandemic.
R – Remember that “busy” is just a four-letter word,
Quickly shifted.
A – Alternative plans can sometimes save your life,
Cancelling isn’t always bad.
N – New opportunities come during inopportune times,
Open your eyes wider.
T – Time plans can change in a flash,
Go with the flow as much as you can.
I – Infuse humor in your life,
Even when it seems most challenging.
N – Never say never – expect the unexpected.
E – Engage in “social distancing",
Perhaps it can bring us closer.
D – Determine to have trust and patience,
Skills to get us through most anything.
I often share with my clients the power of patience in running a business. No more is it truer than right now! Times like this is when business planning needs to be thought through in a whole new light. Today’s podcast is focused on this topic.
Hang tough, be kind to yourself and others. Let's rally together, share the toilet paper and be thoughtful of other people so that we can all get through this thing!
Of course… in a social distancing kind of way.
P.S. Today’s artwork is from Justin Teodoro who seems to always capture the heart of current happenings. In this photo he is capturing the beautiful sights and sounds coming out of Italy with their quarantine.
