Believe It or Not
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite parts of a Chinese meal is the fortune cookie that comes as dessert. The real essence and delight of the cookie is the slip of paper inside that bears the words of wisdom which more times than not are spot on with our thinking.
Words can be a confirmation of what we are feeling, of motivating us towards greater levels of ourselves, and giving us the key element of what I want to talk about today - the power of belief.
Last week about an hour before presenting the webinar on Building Your Marketing Toolkit (view the free replay here), I was deeply moved and inspired to create a slide to insert at the end of discussion that simply said two words… patience and belief.
I did so in that moment because it really is what I find lacking for so many of us as we carry out our entrepreneurial journeys. In my many coaching conversations with clients, they simply have lost their patience and with it their belief that they can bring their hopes and dreams to life.
Think of it this way: what if you were driving down the busy highway at 75 mph, keeping the pace with the other cars around you. Suddenly, you lose the belief that your car could really take you where you wanted to go. Taking that fear as fact, you took your foot off the accelerator and slammed on the brakes!
Well I think we all know what would happen… not only would this action cause yourself grave peril, but it would also endanger any other car that was near you. This is exactly what happens when we lose faith in our abilities to carry out the fruits of our labors - that which matters most to us in our life.
What is really it in your heart and soul that you want to do with your life that you are not currently doing? What negative impact has happened because you have taken your foot off the accelerator and applied the brakes simply out of fear of the unknown…
My mom gave me a poster when I was a teenager that I still have today. I had just returned from a journey of running away from home when she presented it to me in her wise ways. It showed a picture of a small child walking across a field of tall grass and simply said, “I don’t know where I am going, but I am on my way.”
The reason I returned home every time I had the yearning to run away as a child was that I simply didn’t know where the heck it was I was really wanting to go… I usually only got a few miles from home.
So many of us are in this same mindset without realizing it along our journey. Crystallizing your beliefs not only requires every fiber your being to be tuned to what you want, it also takes massive support around you of those people who fully can help you carry the candle of your vision and is such an inspirational piece of our journey.
Finally, today I am excited to share with you my joy in today’s Victory Picture (above). It really does bring to life the saying that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' I took it on an outing with my son during my recent visit to a beach called Lands End in San Francisco. Enjoy and make this week ahead one that carries with it those two key words… patience and belief.
