Beyond Potential
As todays subject line suggests, I would like to request that you think about going beyond your current potential. Our potential, as a reminder, is the capacity we each possess for what is possible and we have yet to actualize in our lives.
Embracing our potential is a key component for wrapping up this year, while making plans for all that we want to see unfold in the new year ahead - which is right around the corner!
What I think is very cool is that when each of us fully gives ourselves the room to allow our potential to expand by setting challenging goals that are followed up by a strong plan of execution, the possibilities for our lives are limitless.
First though it’s important to look at what did not get accomplished this year and most importantly, why. Is there still a chance to make it happen? Stop right now and think about what that item or items are still waiting for you to bring to life.
What slowed you down or stopped you in your tracks? Was it money? Time? Or was it a lack of courage to do something you had never done before?
Last week I traveled to Northern California to attend the memorial service of Carol Somers, the mom of my dear friend Susan. Carol was someone I have known since I was 5 years old. I was really touched by the way in which so many people shared how she lived her life as an artist and a teacher.
Throughout her life she fully embraced her artistic gifts while honestly expressing her feelings and her love for her family and friends. She did things her way and to hear all of the heartfelt stories was touching in so many ways.
What was interesting was how my son Travis, who lives nearby in San Francisco, attended the memorial and never had the chance to meet Carol during the many years I knew her. He only got to “meet” Carol from those warm stories that others shared of her.
As he took me to the airport the following day, it was interesting to hear his reflection of the experience as a witness to the transformation of an artist once they leave the planet. Although he never physically met Carol, he could feel her heart and soul in the few paintings that were still left hanging around her house.
What is it that you want to have said about you when you leave the planet? What is that burning desire you want to bring to life? What is it that you can do to improve the lives of others as you reach your ultimate potential?
I would love to hear your declaration in the comment section below of what you are going to accomplish in the next 31 days that will bring you into a bright and shiny new year.
