Do you sometimes speak your truth yet don’t feel heard?
In last week’s Victory Letter, I got into that tricky space of speaking my truth, lightly mentioning in a few paragraphs some political concerns that I have not voiced before. The result was a number of people unsubscribed leaving me to say and think… yes, but…
And no, I am not going to share any more politics this week, I promise. What I thought I would share more about is the importance of speaking your truth in ways that bring hope for a better today and tomorrow.
Sad as it is, the truth can’t always be butterflies and fairy tales especially when there is a lot of anxiety filled stuff coming at us on an almost daily basis here in 2020.
The key is not to give up, rather to rise up.
I believe the important component is to not speak in a hateful way but in a caring peace filled way. In a way meant to bring attention to what how we all see what is happening in order to resolve at least some the pain that has been building.
One of the people who unsubscribed said, “Not interested in political stance in business emails.” Okay I hear you (even though she decided not to hear me anymore and will never read this message). While I get that we are all feeling overwhelmed with political rhetoric (one of the reasons I am rarely on Facebook these days), how do each of us still get heard? How do we find a way for our voice to make a difference while moving through our daily life?
Yes, but … in speaking of business versus politics … how do we actually stop the bleeding that is happening in small businesses all over the United States. According to a July 2020 survey by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, 45% of those who responded said they did not expect their business to survive past 12 months if economic change did not happen.
Add that to the 55% who have already closed their business because of the pandemic and don’t expect to re-open.
While that is the bad news, here's the good news... there are many, many small business owners fighting back and looking for new opportunities that exist.
I spend my days working with small business owners who are working hard to rise up and I know their pain inside and out. I know the need for them to innovate, imagine and find the ability within themselves to raise up from this storm that has been hovering over our lives since March.
As I was coaching with a client over the phone this past week, I found myself saying something to the tune of “yes, but…it’s time to rise up.” And in that exact moment, as I sat on my back patio, the coolest visual came into focus from my garden. There, as you see in today’s picture above, was a Zinnia flower doing just that and rising up far from the rest. It was such a poignant visual!
That’s my message today. Don’t Give Up, Rise Up as we all maneuver through this together.
Resurface from the things in life that are dragging you down.
Inspire others with your stories of change towards a better business and life.
Share what is real for you and what change you would like to see happen.
Evolve because of what is happening versus dissolve.
Unify with those of a like and unlike mind so that you may…
Pursue your purpose and passions.
While it is my desire that you don’t unsubscribe as I step in sensitive areas, know that I care about you and what matters to you as well. And with that I promise to the best of my ability to continue to keep the politics out of the stories I share.
Here’s to a great week ahead one that gives each of us the courage to rise up so that we can raise ourselves up with hope so we can be ready for all those victories waiting just around the bend.
