Writers Block

I am a writer because I write.

There is a creative wheel that is full of magic and it lies within each of us. This wheel holds the opportunity to express our thoughts both big and small. A spoke on this wheel is disguised and often confused as something other than what it actually is – we have come to know it as writing.

Every morning during the month of October I participated in a writing challenge. Simply, I got up every morning and was emailed a prompt to write about. I would head to my yoga mat with my lap top (I write better on the computer) and coffee in tow. In the darkness of the October mornings, during my Morning Momentum time, I put on the timer for 20 minutes and I wrote.

Sometimes I would write stories, some mornings poems and then again, some mornings just a brain dump, letting the words flow through me.

During these free writes I forget where the comma’s go because the focus is on the words not the punctuation that can trip us up. There is no need to be perfect. So often I find it’s the need for perfect writing that can hold us up.

Through the course of the 31 days I wrote 15,500 words. Words that propelled me forward with new ideas and thoughts that will take me into 2020 and beyond.

Here is why I believe writing is critical…

  • Writing is meditation.

  • Writing is a muscle we each possess that we choose to use or not use.

  • Writing is a way to connect our unconscious mind to our conscious mind in order to discover our juiciest of thoughts and ideas, creating a mind and soul connection.

  • Writing is a basic business fundamental that must be used to get your ideas out into the world.

  • Writing is your built-in laboratory to discover ideas you didn’t even know you possessed.

  • Writing is a tool to think deeper and clearer thoughts leaving behind your words to touch and transform others to think differently.

To use this innate skill, just like any other skill you need to invest in the time, patience and belief and simply write. Quit saying those self-defeating words, “I can’t write” and … WRITE.

Life if fleeting. What is here today may not be here tomorrow or many tomorrows from now. Keep in mind that thoughts that are here today inside that unique mind of yours may not be there tomorrow.

As I write these words it becomes clear that I say them to encourage myself as well as you. I want to be the greatest champion for my own writing as well as for yours. Our inner writer must be kept alive, well and thriving.

What do you want your words to do? How would your business or life change if you could express yourself with written words?

Join me on this week’s podcast. I am taking a deeper dive into these steps and more that it takes to allow words to come to life within you. I also share more of my writing journey over the years with you and what keeps me writing each and every week.

You might just be surprised with a little change of attitude that you too can look in the mirror and say to yourself (and mean it), I AM A WRITER.
