Vacation Plans

Happy Monday {First Name},

This Saturday, 6-20-2020, Summer officially arrives! This summer for sure will be like no other.

While we might be lucky enough to find a place to vacation to other than our homes, the question is can we do the most important thing vacations were designed to do – help us to be able to relax and chill out?

A client this past week while on vacation was juggling major business changes, creating an online program, parenting a small child, dealing with grief from losing a beloved family member, and figuring out where to head next with everything.

She was fortunate enough to have a beautiful family lake house within driving distance and then found herself on arrival not being able to enjoy the family time or able to get any of the “work” she had brought with her done.

My wonderful client was experiencing what could be classified as vacation purgatory which is the equivalent of a workcation. You aren’t quite in the vacation flow because of the guilt of the work or other things you "should" be getting done. The laptop is waiting for you just around every corner. Others needs must be met and, there never seems to be a time just for peace filled moments.

I know most of you reading this can relate to what I am talking about. Nothing feels finished, nothing feels complete. You feel out of sorts and guilty because relaxing seems like something you used to do.

My recommendation to her was to let go. Be present in the present forgetting about future things to be done letting go of what hadn’t been done in the past. Pack up the computer, stop answering emails and give in to the art of just being. There is plenty of time for “doing” after you have given yourself the time for quiet, peace filled moments and some good old-fashioned fun.

It seems in this time and space we have found ourselves in, that we need to continue to remind ourselves that the simple things in life can really be the best. To find spaces, places and activities that feed our souls.

With many of us making the staycation the optimal choice for vacation this summer this is even more important.

Think about the importance of not just taking time off but in actually taking the time to relax.

Wondering about just how to relax during stress filled times? Here is this weeks acronym to help:

Return to what brings you joy.

Experiment with doing new things.

Laugh…a lot!

Awaken parts of you that have gone to sleep.

Xray what is stopping you from relaxing (then do something about it!)

In todays, podcast of course I dig deeper as I share the importance of finding your purpose, another element that gives us peace of mind. I have been putting a lot of time into this topic as of late as I get ready to kick off the Wisdom Webinars next Tuesday, June 23rd.

I know these times are difficult and challenging on so many different levels, however, as the saying goes, wherever you go, there you are.

Find the time, place and energy to relax (yes, it does take energy to relax). Find the peace waiting for you inside of your own mind. That is the true meaning of a vacation.

Be kind to yourself and have fun planning your vacation in whatever form that looks like for you.
