Transformational Habits

The greatest threat to success is not failure but boredom. – James Clear

Happy May to you!

What is the greatest habit you practice in your life on a regular basis? What is the worst?

Habits come in all shapes and sizes, some changing with the seasons. Some that get us beautifully through our day, bringing us joy along the way, and others that can make life seem mundane because they are just have the “to do’s” that take us from point a to point b.

As many of my clients know I often refer to what happens to your business when you take your foot off the accelerator in any part of your business for too long.

Sometimes, there is a need to take your foot off the accelerator all together as I did in the month of April. It felt good and revived my spirit in so many ways. From spending more time with my family as we celebrated my nieces wedding here in Boulder, to laughing until we cried with best childhood girlfriends on the beaches of the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

It gave me my spunk and tenacity back to head into May with much more clarity and vitality to fully be able to see which habits matter most to me and which ones I should let go. Which habits allow me shine as the leader of my business.

What are the habits that enhance or detract from your leadership in business and in life generally?

To help us with this, May’s Victory Book Club offering is Atomic Habits, An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones by James Clear seemed like a great choice. It has been one of my go to books since it came out in 2018.

Reading and listening to it on Audible has been a good reminder to pay attention to which habits matter most. Especially as we find ourselves on the path of climbing out of this pandemic.

One habit that I have had many discussions around lately, including at our Victory Circle mastermind meeting last Friday, is around the gift the pandemic gave to us.

Yes, you heard me right, the good that came out of the pandemic has been it made us all slow down and have more time to just be. To not be jumping into our car so often, keeping our calendars a bit more (or a lot more) free and open. Actually, giving our selves time to think.

In this week’s podcast I review this book and talk more about the theory that James shares in the book of how steadily make 1% improvement in habits every day. The key is that we keep strong and steady in this positive compounding to improve our productivity, knowledge and relationships.

If you would like to get a copy of the Habit Inventory I talk about in the podcast you can download it here.

Wishing you a great week ahead as you take into account the habits in your life that serve you the best.

P.S. Speaking of good habits, Saturday I embarked on a 100-day project on Instagram, Onward We Grow 2021 sharing until August 8, 2021. In it I will be sharing the best of the best in my picture taking skills and stories around how gardening mirrors growth in the rest of our lives.
