The Spark for the Future

When things get dark… that’s when you find out what kind of spark you carry.
— Travis Ruskus

With this morning bringing an extra hour of light than it did last week (due to daylight savings time yesterday) it seems appropriate to talk about sparking things up a bit when the darkness - whether expected or unexpected - comes into our lives.

Since the inception of the Victory Letter many years ago, the number one goal of these writings has always been to celebrate our humanness. No matter the role we play in business, we are all human at our core.

Probably one of my greatest achievements that I am celebrating this week is my ability to create a human being. Talk about humanness! That came in the form of my son, Travis Ruskus, who has not only been an awesome son but has also in the past several years fully stepped into his purpose as a contemporary artist.

I thought that the occasion of his 26th birthday this week would be a great time to kick off the first of our new podcast series: Courage to Be the Difference. This podcast is going to be dedicated to talking with people who are living their true purpose and have the courage it takes to go from thinking about doing something to actually fully doing it.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with my son, his artwork is a little outside the box. He goes out into beautiful landscapes, becomes grateful with the present moment, and makes an incredible rock balance sculpture. He then takes a photo of these moments of peace. The resulting image helps you relax from stress and find the infinite potential within yourself. See more of his work at www.TravisRuskus.com

If you’re driving to work or looking for something to enhance your standard daily routine, I invite you to listen to the episode below. We both had a wonderful time talking about his unique journey and he was even able to surprise me with a few things that I have never heard him say before. Enjoy!

Can you remember back to when you were 26? Did you fully find the courage to follow your path? What was a spark in your life that completely changed the trajectory for the years to come? And what was the difference that it made? Back to the present moment, what challenges are requiring your courage today? Share your thoughts with me in the comments below

Here is to the sparks you give and receive in the week ahead!
