Taking a Break

Life is what you make it…every single day.

Hope you had a nice long weekend!

Yesterday I decided to take a break. Not in the typical 4th of July kind of way but in a disconnecting from the world kind of way. And there was no easier way to do it I found then locking up my cell phone and not using it for 24 hours. Something I have not done for a very long time.

It was amazing to see how many times a day I would have normally gone for my phone. From actual communications, to taking pictures, listening to podcasts, audible books, music, and of course creating content and scrolling through Instagram.

The problem in doing all that is I tend to then end up in email or some other rabbit hole of news that creeps in that does not soothe my soul.

We went on a 20-mile bike ride where I usually listen to music and stop to take pictures. Yesterday I was totally content as I sang a bit as I rode and just soaked in the amazing scenery along our way. Including a family of geese that we watched comically floating down a river as we fixed the flat tire on my bike.

This is something I want to start doing on a regular basis, taking a break from my phone and the noise of the outside world that has been so distracting and discouraging lately. How about you? How will find yourself taking breaks through the month of July?

Here’s to finding your own special kind of peace along the way.
