Take It Easy

we may lose and we may win victory circles colorado

Each of us is a culmination of the people we have been acquainted with along our journey. They are the ones who either gave us our confidence, or those who took it away.

Self-Confidence is the Master Mind principle of the month here in the Victory Circles and today I want to share with you my thoughts on how music and the people who bring it into our lives matter so much.

Hearing the words come out of my husband’s mouth a few weeks ago that musician Glenn Fry had passed away that day hit me hard. As hard as if it had been someone I actually knew personally. I guess it’s because in so many ways I did.

Glenn’s body of musical work that harmonized along with Don Henley and the rest those that made up the band, The Eagles, was magic to my ears since the first day I heard it.

They were a big component that played along in the foreground and the background during my coming of age years as I turned from a girl into a woman.  I always felt as if they were singing their songs exclusively to only me.

The result is that from these warm moments to listening to their music they gave me such a feeling of confidence and purpose as I struggled with so many issues in figuring out who I was and where in the heck I was supposed to be going with my life.

Desperado, probably more than any other of their songs, touched me deep to my core. The song still deeply reminds me of the girl I used to be… with each lyric giving me strength as I hear them for what must be the the millionth time. Thinking about the many corners I turned with them.

These things are pleasing you can hurt you somehow….

The Queen of hearts is always your best bet…

You only want the ones you can’t get…

Your pain and your hunger are driving you home…

Freedom oh Freedom that’s just some people talking

Your prison is walking through this world all alone…

Your losing all your highs and lows isn’t funny how the feelings go away…

Come down from your fences and open the gate…

It may be raining but there is a rainbow above you…

Let somebody love you before it’s too late…

I know that you have a song or two like this as well in your repertoire that has given you confidence and grace in your life.  If you could take a couple of minutes I would love to have you share with me the song that touched your heart back in the day. One that still takes you back to a time in your life that built you at your core when you listen to it still today.

Please share your own unique song in the comments below.

In the week ahead, remember to “Take It Easy.” Put on the song or album from your favorite music player – whether it be indoors, outdoors, or driving with the windows down! Feel your confidence grow and enjoy all that the melody and words bring.

To Glenn Frye, David Bowie, and all the music makers and attitude shakers that have left the planet having made a difference in so many lives, from the bottom of my heart I thank you.
