Stepping Lightly

Good things happen when you also give yourself some room to breathe. – Sonia Choquette

Hello August! The Leo in me always appreciates this month more than others. The last hurrahs of summer are just around the corner and it’s time to be fully present.

I was reminded of this over the past week as in a single day I almost stepped on two snakes. Both garter snakes of different color living in my garden. I have never have been a lover of snake something I shared in last summer’s Victory Letter how I am trying to get over that fear.

While that lack of fear is slow in coming, I know these snakes are so beneficial to the garden and helpful in my quest to eliminate my grasshoppers. However nearly stepping on them always sends my heart whirling. They have been a reminder to step lightly as I spend most of my days right now in the garden.

In just two short weeks I turn 65 and I am using this time in the garden to be more mindful of who, what and where I am in my life. I guess you could say I am also stepping lightly towards this milestone birthday.

Joni Mitchell’s return to the stage last week at the Newport Folk Festival at the age of 78 was a great reminder of all that is possible at any age. Today I am sharing the recording from her epic return and her singing the classic song she wrote back in 1967, Both Sides Now.

Between the beauty of her song, her ability to come back from a brain aneurism, and even Wynona Judd singing back-up to this emotionally filled song, this moment in time is one to treasure.

Wishing you a month ahead filled with peace and creativity as you step lightly towards what matters most to you.
