Soft Heart – Hard Boundaries

The holiday season is upon us. Lots going on and emotions can be a bit delicate. We don't know what is going on in other peoples inner worlds that is different from our own and vice versa.

With that in mind I will make today’s Victory Letter short and sweet as I share with you some words about kindness towards others. My husband shared them from a memorial service he recently attended that was for the brother of long time dear friend of his.

A copy of these words were printed in the memorial handout in the replica handwriting of their great grandfather. The scrap of paper they were written on had been kept in his bible from the late 1800’s. Strong words that guided his faith and something I think we all could use to pick us up and move us forward when we are feeling down.

“Wouldn’t this old world be better if the folks we meet would say, “I know something good about you!” And then treat us just that way?

Wouldn’t it be fine and dandy if each hand clasp warm and true carried with it assurance, “I know something good about you!”

Wouldn’t life be lots moor happy (their last name is Moore) if the good that’s in us all, were the only thing about us that folks bothered to recall?

Wouldn’t it be nice to practice that fine way of thinking too? You know something good about me and I know something good about you.”

What do you say about taking extra time to look for the good in the people we engage with this week? Keeping a soft heart, with hard boundaries around negativity and hatred. Those two elements that only undermine the ability to see something good in those around us.

Soft heart, hard boundaries.

Have a great week ahead!
