“It is the fundamental unfairness of parenthood that if we do our jobs well, the deepest bond we are given will walk out the door with a wave over the shoulder.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer

There are a number of new readers joining us this week and I first off want to welcome you aboard to this weekly share of the Victory Letter. A letter since its inception in 2000 to bring a dash of inspiration to your world every Monday morning.

For those who are either parents or responsible for the welfare of another human being in one way or another, todays quote is from the book Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer is so spot on. This is a book that recently made it to the top of my reading pile, and I have been delighted to discover why it has been on the New York Times Bestseller List for over 100 weeks.

Visiting my daughter over the last couple of days in California has been such a reminder of the importance of pushing through in creating positive outcomes for others. Something I had a really vivid dream about last night, with the words “pushing through” waking me up in the wee hours this morning to write them down.

Here is the deal, life can get hard, sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do in order to benefit another human being. Most especially for those that we love. Coming to visit my daughter and son-in-law, and seeing the beautiful life they have built for themselves makes all the letting go on my part along my daughter’s journey so worthwhile.

Had I not given both my children the wings to fully fly they would not be out in the world making the differences that they are for others. For sure, life got to be pretty challenging during many legs of the journey in raising them, however, as Robin says in her book, “I just wanted to be a good mother.” That single burning desire guided me so many times along the way.

I really like the thought of leadership in the form of caring in a paternal way. Pushing through not just for the good of oneself but for the life or lives that will be effected by our choices.

In case you are living on a remote island somewhere…you have most likely heard that tomorrow is Election Day here in the US. My hope and prayer is that somehow, someway we are empowered as a country by the results. Hoping that positivity, kindness and respect will be held up as the most important part of the outcome, helping us all to push through to brighter tomorrows. Please be sure to get out and vote if you haven’t already.

Here is a share of me dropping my ballot at a local ballot box before I left home last week. 🤓

What are you ready to push through in the week ahead? Let’s make good things happen!
