Perfect Potential

“Every set back carries a seed for success.”  Deepak Chopra

Ah the word perfect. The perfect thing to say, the perfect body, the perfect relationship, the perfect home, the perfect parent, the perfect business, the perfect life.

If you have ever tried to achieve perfection one thing you know to be true is that it can be exhausting! It can be especially exhausting if we don’t have the right lens on when trying to attain the right version of our own perfection.

What I have found to be true in all my years of walking on this planet that perfection can change with the season, with your age, and with your relationships. Something that once seemed important to perfect in your life suddenly doesn’t matter so much anymore.

If you even think about how each of us has changed in this single life changing year…the little imperfect parts of our lives suddenly got a whole lot more perfect.

This past week we installed a new window in our kitchen. With winter quickly approaching we knew that our old window was not as energy efficient as it should be and thought that a newer window was important now.

As we thought about updating the window, we considered how it would bring in more light into our kitchen which also seemed important.

There of course was a cost factor to the window that had to be considered. And after deliberation we decided the energy savings over time would be well worth the investment.

What blew us away once the window was installed was how much it impacted the look of our kitchen! Suddenly, we could see so much more of the backyard and mountain views beyond. The old window was not only inefficient it was unknowingly blocking out so much light. We had lived with that window for about 28 years.

Of course, I could not help but share this with you today because it brings to mind how the potential of improvement through changes can bring so much more light in then we expect. We can start to go after a change for one reason, and then another reason makes the solution perfect in our own minds eye - the eye that matters most. This perspective keeps us from worrying about what other people think.

How many opportunities do you miss out on because of comparison to others be it a competitor, colleague, friend or family member? The fear that that our endeavors won’t be perfect in their eyes can stop us from growing and improving our lives in so many ways.

As we begin week four of The Artist’s Way Challenge ask yourself what may be stopping you from creating the things that your heart would love for you to do, have or be?

One of Deepak Chopra’s 7 Spiritual Laws is what he calls pure potentiality. As he shares, “Through the law of pure potentiality I can create anything at anytime, anywhere.

What is within the realm of your pure potential this week? Your very own perfectly imperfect potential that will allow you to create, change, explore and take action on one or more ideas. Ideas that will be perfect for you and perhaps others whose lives you touch.

With so much negativity spinning in our world let’s be the change agents for positive transformation of our world, near and far.

You have got this! Have a great week ahead!
