Patience in Steps

Love like wine gets better with time.

Happy Monday!

One thing I know to be true as an entrepreneur all these years, as well as a gardener, is that the process of running a business as well as growing a garden, takes a mountain of patience. And patience my friend requires the best use of our precious time.

In fact, I believe patience is probably the most important skill set for both of these endeavors (and so many others, like parenting) and I have spent the majority of my life passionately pursuing them.

Patience happens when you can take one step, after another, and then another, and then yet another, totally focused on where those steps are taking you. One of the biggest reasons that people do not attain their goals is that they forget the parts in between wanting, saying it out loud, and then achieving that said goal.

I surely have been guilty of this mistake myself a time or two (or many more), getting so caught up in just the end vision, not what it’s going to take to get me there. Keeping in mind we need to have happiness and joy on the road to that goal as well.

Because let’s face it if the steps to get you there are things you just don’t want to do because they make you miserable, our time is too precious and most likely you are not going to end up taking the required steps. The greatest achievement in life in my opinion is getting up most days and loving the steps in front of you for that day.

Keep this in mind when you think about the next achievement big or small that you want to wrap your arms around…

Gardening has taught be me that when I plant a seed if I don’t do the necessary things like provide that seed with light and water it’s not going to grow. Period. Now sometimes nature does that for me with many volunteer sunflowers and such, but it’s not guaranteed. We can't always count on luck to get us through.

And sometimes, the best laid efforts don’t work out and you end up back at square one. And this is when you have to have the courage to not give up as you rethink and revise your steps. And this is also where enjoying and having a love for the journey itself comes into play because it’s not such a burden to try another route.

This week’s video is about my adventure in performing at the Denver Ignite talk I have mentioned in the last few Victory Letters. I share my journey before and after getting on that stage and the way I looked past my fear and rethought my steps more than once during the process.

As we wind our way towards Labor Day weekend in just 5 days what are the steps you are going to find yourself taking as we wind up the summer season over the next 3 weeks ahead?

What is the important steps you want to take over the Fall season that will service you best?

What is that BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) that is currently staring you in the face. What if you achieved it? Think of the smile that might put not only on your face but in your heart as well. What would you love most to be spending your time doing to get you to that goal?

Think of it like the grapes growing on a vine. It takes many steps and time for grapes to become wine … one step at a time, getting better with time.

Til next week!
