Out of Sync
"When you're passionate about something, you want it to be all it can be. But in the endgame of life, I fundamentally believe the key to happiness is letting go of that idea of perfection."
- Debra Messing.
This morning as I write to you, I am grappling with the whole idea of perfection. I have been challenged over the past few weeks with grasshoppers, Japanese beetles and earwigs that have decided they like my garden as well.
Since I am an organic gardener, this has left me to battle these little creatures one on one. And to realize that as an organic gardener I gave up the option for a perfect looking garden.
So, I now accept the holes in my flowers as I do what I can each day to make it so my garden is not completely destroyed. Trying each day to let go of the angst it causes me. Somedays of course are easier than others. I think we all can say this about many elements of our life that are feeling out of sync with what we actually wanted them to be.
This week I am sharing a video with you about the gazebo Ed and I just built. We lived with an area in our backyard that was pretty unsightly for a long time and this improvement has been so inspiring. These are the elements I like to focus on the most.
As you pass through your week look at the imperfections around you and see how they may be throwing you out of sync. What if you looked at the imperfection in a different way knowing you have done what could to make the world around you the best it can be in this moment?
For example, I can look at my garden with the holes in the leaves and flower petals missing, knowing it is a completely perfect environment for the birds, bees and even the little froggies who are helping with the grasshopper battle.
I guess you could say there is a lot of perfection in imperfection.
Hope your week is taking you where you want to go!
Onward we grow!
