Make the Change

Change brings opportunity.
— Nido Qubein

People resist change. Most times people even resist talking about change! However, this element brings the potential for life altering transformation. What is your attitude and movement towards a current change you need to make in your life?

Why seek change?  Because change brings growth and opportunities. Even if it seems quite uncomfortable and unwelcomed at first, our life progresses towards a new direction. The truth is we can get too comfy and cozy in our lives and this time of year it’s always a good reminder to see where you are standing when it comes to creating change for yourself.

Without our approval or contract to negotiate, the universe decided it was time to fully bring an end to the Summer weather here in Colorado. This has changed my own daily habits… as out comes the dramatic beauty of the fall season followed by the stark drama of the winter season.

Watching my garden get zapped by the first frost last week started my annual ritual of change that included scooping up the flowers, herbs, and remaining veggies before the frost could get to them.

As I did so, I did it with of course some painful regret – especially for my flowers because the love for them seems to grow deeper into my soul each year. I have found for myself that in order to get past this self imposed regret I need to include a strong dose of gratitude for the garden I had the privilege to tend all summer long. By realizing that it is not going to last forever I enjoy it so much more.

It’s important for me to remember as I let go of these things I love that I will now have more time to tend to other important elements indoors - including the creation of a new book that is currently flowing out of me!!

Change can lead us to a new opportunity if we don’t head towards it screaming and kicking all the way. As Jim Rohn shared along his life journey, “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.”

In my work with many small business owners, change is the most difficult hurdle to face.  Recommended changes get resisted until the reality comes full force that there is no other choice but to make the needed change.

Most of us know when we need to make a big change, but when fear steps in (which has been known as the mother of invention) this can keep us stuck with what is no longer working for our professional and personal lives. Without strong will and support from an outside source that you trust, you can find yourself avoiding change over and over and over again.

I am a believer that if we don’t make needed change, fate will in fact step in when we get too stuck and makes the necessary change happen. Similar to the first frost of the season we don’t know when or how it happens.

What if you fully imagined the results of the needed change that you want in your life whether in your business or personal life? Imagine fully embracing the new possibilities for yourself, your family and the people whose lives you touch through your business.   When you open yourself up to change, then the transformation begins.

Here’s to the change in the air!
