Leap of Faith
Without a doubt the twists and turns life takes us on are something that actually can serve us … in one way… or another.
3 months ago my son Travis said to me, “Mom you should do more just purely motivational talks.” I smiled at the thought and immediately let it go because my primary focus over the last 5 years has been business and marketing.
The very next day I got an email from the Executive Director of a Performing Arts Center that I had done marketing workshops for this past spring asking if I did any… “Motivational speaking.”
A coincidence – I think not. Of course I knew without a doubt I had to take on the challenge.
The topic was domestic violence for a local women’s shelter benefit in Artesia New Mexico that the Arts Center was hosting.
I pretty quickly came up with the title, Leap of Faith. The last few months on and off I created the message taking some real world experiences from my childhood onto the stage with me.
This required many hours of thinking, creating and heart felt searching on this important topic. Shockingly 3 out of 5 women will experience some kind of severe domestic violence in their lifetime. It’s more of an epidemic than I ever realized.
I gave the talk, and while I have always loved connecting with people in order to make a difference in their businesses… this gave me the opportunity to make a difference at a much deeper heart level.
The icing on the cake was the people who came up to me in the lobby of the event afterwards and shared how my words had been so impactful to them. My message was about finding joy in your own life no matter your adversities. Finding joy in the journey everyday to in fact help you get past the adversities.
One woman came up to me and shared that she hadn’t found many reasons to smile in five years and starting the very next day she was going to take my suggestions to heart (literally) and change the way she had been dealing with the grief of her husband’s death.
The speech required me to step up to find this message about what it takes to create a Leap of Faith.
1. Clarity
Happiness matters. Asking yourself where you stand on the happiness scale everyday – from 1 to 10. 1 being you can’t get out of bed to 10 loving life. What is stopping you today from having a 10?
2. Creativity
When our creative genius comes to life (yes we each have it) it gives us freedom to live with our truest self.
3. Courage
It’s our greatest challenge to move beyond the stories of our past in order to create our present and future. What do you need to let go of in order to leap to your next best self?
Here’s to finding your leaps in the week ahead that will bring you closer to the joys of your life.
