Jumping In
"All you need to do to receive guidance is to ask for it and then listen." – Sanaya Roman
Saturday night I woke up in the middle of the night with the two words “Jumping In” waking me up to write them down. I was not sure why at the time but I knew that I needed to follow this stream of consciousness with this morning’s writing.
And before I talk about this idea of jumping in let me prelude this with what was going on with me on Saturday during the day.
When the news came to light that Biden would be our next President my husband and I looked at each other and cried. We cried because for the first time in a long time we felt there was hope that our voices might once again be heard by a new president. A president who has promised to listen to every single American, not just the ones who like him or are of a color both politically and ethnicity that he prefers.
I cried as a woman because finally, after all these years, a woman has been elected in the roll of Vice President. A really big deal for all women of this country no matter political preference.
We carried on with our day, hearing and sharing the news here at home. Then, before I knew what had hit me, I ended up in the hospital emergency room with severe chest pains and feeling like a ton of bricks were sitting on my chest. Ironically, as others shared that they felt they could breathe again, I was feeling I couldn't breathe very well.
This past week we all felt so much stress, added to a year of stress. Add in a full work and life schedule. My body for whatever reason was no longer happy with me. Tests came out that my major body organs were all good, they were sure I did not have Covid, and they recommended that I needed to take it easy and have some stress tests done with a cardiologist in the week ahead.
Yesterday as I tried my best to relax and do nothing – something I discovered hard to do for me - I pondered this idea I had written down of “jumping in.” Given my circumstances it seemed odd yet what I came up with is this... while jumping in is important so is jumping out. There is a balance that is necessary.
Even if for the most part, really good things are happening in your life, it’s important to stand back and look at how stress might be entering your body. For me, I thought I was doing a great job in this area, meditating every day, exercising, etc. but something is wrong and out of sorts
The lesson for me from this weekend was that in addition to what I am already doing, I need to hit the pause button before always jumping in. To learn to relax more and when needed, to jump out.
I talk more about this in today’s podcast and share with you the Virtue Trap Quiz from this past week 5 of the Artists Way Challenge which was perfect timing. In the week ahead are moving into Week 6 of the Artists Way Challenge which is on Recovering A Sense of Abundance.
As you look at your week ahead where do you need to jump in or perhaps at the right times jump out and give yourself a break. These are challenging times without a doubt and the more self-care that we can give ourselves the better! Have an awesome week ahead!
