I've got your back
Here’s a simple question that hopefully does not require a complex answer…
Who has got your back?
As we have watched the Olympics over the last few weeks one thing remained clear throughout: not one of those amazing athletes got to Rio on their own.
In fact, there was probably a whole team who got them there. Their family, coach, friends, sponsors and teammates who cheered for them through the good times and the bad.
The key element for these athletes to get past their fear and compete on that world stage is that someone had their back. They knew if they were to fall, someone would be there to push them up and keep them going forward.
Even those who experienced the pain of not winning an Olympic gold during these games – they too had people there to help soothe their disappointment so they could get back out there and try again in the next Olympics.
Whose back to do you have?
The world becomes a whole better place when you have people who lift you up as you lift them back as well. This picture below is from a recent hike here in Boulder with my family. These are my core peeps (with a few special ones missing) - those key people that I know no matter what we have each other’s back.
Trust is the key word in this equation that gets us past our fears and enables us to push forward with complete self-confidence. Without trust we cannot allow ourselves to fully shine! Without the capacity to fully shine we miss out on all the positive experiences there is possible in this world.
Sometimes people have been having our back for so long that we forget to thank them. They simply become so comfortable and necessary to us that after a while we can forget that they are even there.
I invite you this week to make a little time to thank those people by giving them a shout out of gratitude for all they bring into your life. In addition, be the person this week that can easily say those words and mean it, “I’ve got your back.”
Just imagine the fear we could zap out of the world if we did this on a regular basis and in the process insure the success of each other. We all in fact became a coach in one form or another as others coach us along to be the best we can be.
Here’s to a most awesome week ahead!
