I'm Sorry
When you least expect it a hurdle marks your way,
It comes out of nowhere and can slow down your game of play.
The key is to look the obstacle straight on as you calculate it well.
Know the course you are running on and don’t let doubt dwell.
See yourself on the other side of the hurdle – victory closer to your reach,
This vision of a winner is from stories coaches teach.

This is week 3 of 5, as we continue this thought about running our best race. I want to start off this week asking, how many times in the last week have you said, or heard someone say to you the words, I’m sorry?
These words can easily pass our lips without sometimes even realizing it when the unexpected comes to pass. And… boy oh boy… has the past week given me the unexpected.
As I had shared in last week’s letter, I headed to the Tetons with my dear friend Toni. She had asked that we make the trip and so we did. The ride from Colorado through Wyoming was beautiful, especially the closer we got to those majestic Tetons.
We shared stories, talked about life, easily talked about different viewpoints on politics, and catching up on the many years since we last had this kind of time together – if ever. It was wonderful.
After about 8 hours of driving suddenly we looked up and there they were…The Tetons! What we weren’t expecting was that they were blanketed in so much smoke from the fires that have been burning in Oregon.
We pulled over and just loved on them anyway because they really are such majestic peaks. Smoke or no smoke. And the fact that we were there together looking at their beauty will stay with me all the days of my life.
What I also wasn’t expecting was that night getting a call from my husband saying he had tested positive for Covid. Or, that 3 days later that I would test positive as well. The antics Toni and I went through to get tested not once but twice kept us laughing because of the experience and doing it in such a beautiful place. AND with each other.
The good news is that we have all been vaccinated and while Ed has symptoms like I bad cold, I have been asymptomatic other than tightness in my chest which could also be from the bad air from the fires.
Toni flew home to Oregon as planned after getting a negative test, and I have been holed up here in Wyoming quarantining for a few more days. The good news is that Toni and I had the visit and time together that was so very wonderful. Now I have some time to do some writing and inner reflection over the next few days that I had not planned on.
Am I sorry – I would say no, because it is what it is, we did all we could to be mindful about Covid including wearing masks, and the race carries on with life unfolding as it does. I feel blessed that I don’t have a worse case of Covid and that my dear friend Toni didn’t get it from me.
The word sorry, brings with it regret that something isn’t a certain way for us. And what I have come to understand in life is that if we can appreciate what is, instead of what isn’t, life just gets a whole lot richer.
In the week ahead as you find yourself saying sorry, ask yourself what you are truly sorry about. Or, is it just a way to help you get past something that you wish were different? Swap out the word sorry with a much more positive word or way to express what you are feeling.
Even more important if someone tells you they are sorry assure them in whatever way is necessary that there is no need for them to be sorry. Assure them that all is okay so that you both can keep running your race without feeling bad.
I am going to try and get on Tenacity Tuesday myself tomorrow at noon and since wi-fi is sketchy where I am, I will not be bringing on my special guest I had planned on. And I may not even be there. No sorries about it. 🤓 Follow me on @victorygirl on Instagram and you will see me come on live at noon mst. ... if it works.
Wishing you a great week ahead and stay safe out there!
