Game Changer
Nothing builds self-confidence quite like getting into the arena and fully playing the game. Never has and probably never will.
Jumping into the game – especially of a small business - takes a good strong dash of self-confidence to even begin it. Then, as you orchestrate and play out the needed dance steps to be taken – something inside you just grows and grows.
Probably one of my favorite past times is listening to stories of impassioned entrepreneurs and the steps they have taken along their way to make the idea and dream of creating a business a reality.
However, as anyone knows who has been in the game it is definitely not all about rainbows and lollipops. Things happen along our way that can bring it all crumbling down if we are not careful. Challenges can look like a tsunami and have us running for the hills. And Naysayers can seem to appear at your doorstep just when you don’t need them the most.
There is a way to fight back…
I loved last week when Taylor Swift accepted her Grammy award for Album of the Year and her speech that was a no nonsense reminder that we don’t have to take rubbish or negative talk from anyone. And she said,
"As the first woman to win album of the year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.
But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world."
Bravo Taylor!! In other words – let the haters say what they will and don’t absorb it into your consciousness. Get tough skinned!
Todays quote from Chef Niki Nakayama was shared in the program Chefs Table (excellent on Netflix). Her passion and fortitude has raised her to great levels in her restaurant in Los Angeles with as much as a two-month waiting list to get a reservation. It happened from diligence, hard work and taking risks. Added to all of that was being fully and completely in the game everyday.
Because here is the deal – if you have one foot out and one foot in you miss out on what is known as “the flow.” The work coming out of you consistently with a passion and understanding that nothing is going to get in your way.
I remember the first time I stood in front of an audience as an “expert” in the marketing world – my knees were like Jell-O and my brain was full of mush. Amazingly, through it all, somehow I connected my sentences as I needed to and when people came up to me afterwards they were excited and wanted to know more.
That’s was all I needed to continue stepping on more stages until today, while there still is those little butterflies when I do – I am in it (the game) and know the message I need to share to empower others. It flows into the other work that I do, as it needs to each and every day.
The flow means something different for each of us. I would love to know what puts you in your own unique flow. What brings your self-confidence to its highest level? Share in the comments below.
As you head into this week ahead hold your head up high and step into the game with your feet taking you exactly where you need to go.
