The Finish Line
You hardly can believe it…could it really be true?
Is that the finish line ribbon stretching out in front of you?
Nothing else now really matters, the world around you fades away
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for – this is your day!
The other runners now don’t matter as your goal is clear in sight,
You will break the ribbon as you dreamed…you are full of power and might.
Then indeed it happens, you feel the ribbon in your hand,
You’ve overcome all your struggles, and everything is clear where you now stand.
For while the thrill of winning is sweet as it can be,
The race and how you ran it was your true victory.
Hold this moment clearly and remember that this is not the end,
The fact of the matter is really this…this is where it begins.

When we begin a race, we try and envision what it will feel like to hit the finish line but then life happens along the way…
As we head into this final week, week 5 of this idea of life as a race, I am blown away by the twists and turns that have occurred over the last few weeks in my own personal life. As I shared last week I was taken on an unplanned adventure to Wyoming in the early part of August, and then last week I got to watch my daughter’s dreams unfold as she crossed the finish line in launching her first cookbook.
It’s a long story, but because of other previous made commitments we were not going to be able to attend her initial book launch in San Diego where she lives. However, life circled back around, and we were able to attend after all. And I must tell you that I could not have imagined not being there for such a special moment in my baby girls life. The universe knew better.
A reminder that when the universe keeps sending you messages – listen.
What was so amazing at her launch party were the people that were there to celebrate with her. Her community she has built over the 5 years since moving to San Diego. People who believed in her and were there for her when she was working to make her dream come true.
She had a hard road ahead of her heading to San Diego and nothing, I repeat nothing initially worked out as planned.
Which really brings me this morning. The message I am hearing loud and clear is that as much as our strengths and abilities take us where we need to go, it is the people we surround ourselves with that help us get to the finish line as much as anything else.
People who are as committed to seeing you win your race as they are about their own. It is a wonderful thing we can do for each other as human beings. Even the simple part of standing on the sidelines and cheering someone on.
In a day in time when so many seem to be jumping on the band wagon to loudly and vocally criticize people for their mistakes, it is so refreshing in contrast to actually watch people cheering others on. To take the time energy and effort to help someone else gain important wins in their lives and move past their bruised shins and missteps along the way.
Bailey will be here in Denver this coming Sunday, August 29th for round two of her book launch. She will be at Mile High Spirits and Distillery from 2-5 pm signing her book. I will of course be there and if you are here in the area I would love to meet up with you.
