Finding the Bright Side

Despite knowing they won't be here for long; they still choose to live their brightest lives — sunflowers. – Rupi Kaur

I have now written this letter numerous times. Never one to give up, I have written my words today over and over to try and touch all bases in order to find the positive spin the Victory Letter has always represented. So please let me know how I do and how you are feeling as we start a new week in our new reality here in America.

No matter where each of us find ourselves on “either side of the aisle” I can’t help believing those of us with caring hearts find this a tough place to be after such a tumultuous election cycle. And without a doubt there is much work to be done to heal this nation.

Let me first share some preplanned sweetness with this week’s video where I got to find gold at the end of my first season of growing Dahlia’s. At the end of every plant, I dug up I found the possibility of 10 to 15 more plants which are called tubers.

Wouldn’t it be awesome to find this kind of reward with so much of what we do. This kind of growth happening from the seeds we each plant?

There is an age old belief that we should not talk politics, yet there comes a point when you have to ask, how do you not? Especially when there are people you care about in your life who are coming from such opposing sides. We all have to make it through and to the bright spots of our lives over the next four years. That’s where we have to talk openly and honestly with each other.

We have to find that light that will shine for each of us.

I will admit I have lost my cool a time or two in the past week. I got sent over the top hearing about hate filled social media slurs coming towards women that I love and care about. Things like, “your body my choice” and “now it’s time for you to get back in the kitchen.” And some so much worse.

Most certainly I realize this is not coming from everyone who voted in our new old president. But there were enough to make it a grave concern. Enough to be fearful and ask is this what we are in for because of someone’s gender, color of skin, financial status, or sexual orientation?

Without a doubt we are entering into a time where government checks and balances are about to be completely removed. Leaving democracy at one of its greatest risks of surviving in our lifetime. This is the part we have to live out. Like the sunflower in today’s quote, this is the life we have to lead and ask ourselves how do I live it the brightest?

It will take strength to come back together. It will take open communications. And it will take a common respect for what each of us brings to this life. I am working hard to understand where the bright side is for myself, how about you?

Onward we grow,

Cheri
