Fighting Back

Guide my will and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope, to suffer, to forgive, and to love.

Over the weekend a dear friend of mine, after a heart felt phone discussion about the travesty of the war in Ukraine, emailed me a lovely prayer. Today’s quote above is the words that ended the prayer and I believe they are so appropriate for the times we are living in.


It has been difficult to decide what to write about today because as I have shared before I never want this letter to be political. However, we are living in such an unprecedented political filled time, and to not talk about something that is affecting the world in such a horrific way doesn’t seem right either.


But I want to talk about the shining light that we have seen over the last few days in what is happening in Ukraine. Despite all odds the citizens of Ukraine are coming back strong against the superpower of the Russian military.


Yes, it’s the common citizens that are taking on the battle cry, “They will never take KYIV” and meaning every word of it in all their actions of bravery.


They are fighting back with all their belief, courage, and love for their country. They are uniting together because indeed as the age old saying goes, united we stand, divided we fall.


It takes a lot of courage and strength to fight back. You need to be fierce and determined. You need to know without a shadow of a doubt that what will come to pass if you don’t fight back will be the worst possible alternative.


It leaves the question today, what beliefs or causes are each of us are willing to fight back for? As we have watched our own country face a divide not seen since the days of the Civil War, how can we come back together to insure our own sovereignty as a united nation.

As we continue to watch the madness of Putin unfold in the week ahead, perhaps the inner warrior in each of us can come into the light. To look towards finding the courage to fight back against whatever is currently taking away our freedoms and happiness.

Just as the words of our own Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

And as we head towards the month of March this week, let us send out a multitude of prayers and positive energy towards all of humanity finding a better path to get along with each other and fill the world with much more love.
