Dream Out Loud

"I think there is room for joy and there is room for celebration even if it's way different than you expected. I think moving forward nothing is going to look the same so it's time to write your life the way you wanted to because we only get one shot." (An excerpt from this week’s podcast) - Bailey Ruskus

Well it happened… my daughter and new son-in-law dreamed out loud and created an amazing wedding celebration that will be in our heads and hearts for always.

There is so much I could share with you about what transpired over the last 10 days and I will sum it up by saying that we found a reason to celebrate and we did just that. Celebrating something as positive as forever love during a time of fear and uncertainty. Doing it as safely as possible without sacrificing a whole lot of fun in the process.

We had so many great moments from the drive to California, spending time with Bailey and Steve before the wedding, visiting with those who did make the trek, and getting the biggest surprise of all when my son Travis and his girlfriend Jody showed up on our morning walk on the beach the morning before the wedding.

Travis had decided for safety sake he wasn’t going to attend and then the day before the wedding he knew in his heart he could not, not be at his sister’s wedding. The surprise for all of us was deeply heart felt.

The wedding ceremony took place on a large rock outcropping overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was beyond picturesque. A spot they had found just the week before where no reservation was required. The group of 20 of us watched as they read their vows to each other and committed to love each other forever. A tall order to be sure.

After the ceremony we got into the golf carts we had rented to transport the wedding guests back to the reception at the private residence where we were staying. The ride back turned into a glorious addition to the event I had not really expected.

Simple transportation became a way to share the joy we were all feeling. As we drove through the streets of Bailey and Steve’s beach community, we honked and shouted out our joy. With Bailey and Steve sitting on the back of golf cart, those we passed on the street raised their hands to wave and shout back congratulations.

I loved watching the smiles appear on people’s faces as our wedding caravan passed by and people in balcony’s over the route raised their late afternoon cocktails in celebration.

My conclusion has been that not only does love prevail, but we all want reasons to celebrate especially as the preciousness of life has been in the forefront of our lives this year.

Yesterday Bailey, Steve, Ed and I created this week’s podcast together and shared our biggest take away from this life changing event. We share more of the details of our time safely outside of quarantine, lessons learned and special moments we experienced.

As I get back to day to day life after such an amazing experience, I will remember ongoing how much dreams matter as long as you put them into action after of course… you say them out loud.

Wishing you an awesome week ahead!
