Do The Thing

We are all given the gift of human life, and then it becomes a management issue. -Caroline Myss

Happy Monday!

Have you ever gone to your GPS for directions, plugged in the destination, but luckily had a pretty good idea where you were headed? I say lucky because Siri, or whoever you use for your GPS, starts to give you the directions that you know will take you the long roundabout way. Even though you had picked the shorter route.

This happened to me the other day when my Australian Siri kept telling me where to go in his distinct accent. I knew him to be wrong for the first 45 minutes of our 3 ½ hour journey together, until we finally got on the correct highway. Perhaps the easiest thing would have been to turn him off, but I somehow think I secretly wanted to prove myself right. ;)

I thought it was interesting how sure I was of where I was headed. I didn’t even hesitate to ignore him when he gave me directions to get off at that next exit knowing that move would have added extra time to my drive for no reason (no traffic delays were reported).

This got me to thinking about what makes us confident about who we listen to and who we don’t when it comes to managing so many other elements in our lives. Who our trusted go to people are and then who they are not.

How confident we are at times with exactly where we are going and where doubt typically pops up for each of us. Ironically, I was headed to a women’s retreat which was all around clearing our heads of excessive noise. More on the amazing discovery’s I am still processing in next week’s letter.

But in the meantime, the piece I would offer for you to digest from this week’s letter is asking yourself the question, what are the elements that give you complete confidence in where you are headed and when do you fall short?

Sometimes it might even be some naysayers in our lives saying something we know not to be true, yet we possibly say or do nothing to rectify the situation.

What gets you stay on the route, the proven track that you believe to be true with every fiber of your being? What gets you to do the thing that you know to be true and won’t allow yourself to get off on the wrong exit. Another way of thinking about it is managing your life, the way you know it needs to be managed.

This week, as we take a pause from the podcast for at least the rest of the summer, I thought I would share with you a tour of my Zen Garden. A place where I can quiet my mind and a quiet mind always can hear so many more beautiful things. Can’t they?

Wishing you a week ahead of confidence and a knowing or two, of just exactly what you need to know.

PS - Today's picture was in route, my route, to the retreat here in Colorado with the beautiful Collegiate Peaks in the background.
