Connected Strength

There is no such thing as a self-made man/woman. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the makeup of our character and of our thoughts, as well as our success.

This morning I sit in reflection of the Thanksgiving festivities that were just enjoyed and celebrated with my family. I love the words of this quote today (given to me in a cookbook from my daughter Bailey) as they are a great reminder of just how much we are intertwined with each other.

With some people we are connected for 5 minutes and some, like our family, a lifetime.

With my children Travis and Bailey not being able to also come home for Christmas we decided to celebrate that holiday over the weekend as well. One of the gifts that my son Travis gave us was a sculpture kit with the idea of immersing one hand of each of our immediate family members in the sculpture to represent the heart of our family.

It was an interesting process creating an exact mold of our hands and today's pictures are the final result. It is a great reminder of how we are intertwined and the strength with have comes from the company of others. We may not always get along because of our distinctive personalities, but when you remember to look towards that core of love (as with any relationship) it makes all the difference.

Now as you head towards the busy time of the holiday season ahead, be sure to not get so wrapped up in the “doing” of the season. Be connected in the moment with those who you wish to gather with and spend your time.

Take the needed time to remind the people you care about what they mean to you. Whether it’s a quick text/email saying hi, a long phone conversation, a cup of tea together, or the beauty of a greeting card that really shares how much you care.

Tis the season of giving ahead of us. Let’s give from our hearts!
