Changing Perspectives

“Letting go means releasing the pain not the love.” - Rachel Brathen

As I write these words for this week’s Victory Letter the snow has begun to fall. I looked at it with awe, disbelief and a twinge of regret. I am not ready for the cold to be here. For me, it means saying goodbye to my garden until next spring.

I grew up in Southern California and moved to Colorado when I was 24. In fact, the day I drove into Boulder with my big brother was the first fall snow fall that year on October 26, 1982. As we sat and munched on our meal at a restaurant in my new hometown I was mesmerized and delighted by that beautiful white stuff coming out of the sky.

Now, all these years later, having become an avid gardener for the last 25 or so, my fondness for snow has changed to be sure. Yet I do like how it shifts my perspective and the focus from the outside (for now anyway) to the inside.

Finding time for projects indoors that haven’t been done because when the weather is nice I just want to find myself outside.

How about you? If geographically you live in a dramatically changing season how do you shift your perspective to go with the flow of seasonal change?

For that matter, beyond the change of weather how do you adapt to change in general?

Do you fight change or go with it? Do you prepare for the changes that are inevitable so that the results are so much better ?

I have found the older I get the more I prepare for change. This must come from lessons learned along the way.

Included in my preparation was signing up for a 31-day writing challenge. Starting back on October 1st I have been writing every single day this month for a minimum of 20 minutes. It has been quite rewarding and has brought me back in touch with my love for writing. Something I will have much more time for in the months ahead that is for sure.

Change can be simple, and it can be complex. Our greatest challenge in this life is finding the ways to allow change to help us grow and be our very best selves in the process. Pushing through the desire to resist change and see what opportunities lay on the other side of it.

In today’s podcast I dive into antidotes for three types of change we all face at one time or another that can be the hardest to wrap our arms around:

1. Change of attitude that can raise your altitude.

2. Change due the heartbreaking loss of a loved one.

3. Change that must happen for your business success.

As you head into this week ahead. Explore any resistance you might be having around the changes that need to happen. Just imagine releasing any pain associated with that change and let your love for your life shine.
