Believe Differently
Allowing yourself to be different is a test in belief, a self-belief, that carries you through on the high roads and the low roads of this life. I learned this to be true as early on as a child, right up through today as an entrepreneur.
Being different - going against the grain - is as scary as it gets. My first experience was in my family of origin where I seemed to be cut from a different cloth than my siblings. Interestingly enough they were all blonde’s and I was brunette making me also visibly different. Perhaps that’s what gave me my start?
In grade school the nuns were not delighted at all with my independent streak and did what they could to try and squelch me down, giving me that title of “troublemaker” in our class. However, this didn’t seem to stop me and I kept moving forward with the inner marching orders that allowed me to fully breathe everyday.
On Valentines Day my hubby and I checked out the long anticipated opening day of Trader Joe's here in Boulder. We walked around the store in amazement at the crowd, people standing in hour-long lines wrapping around the store to simply check out. It was crystal clear that Trader Joe’s has created that differential in business that previously had some people driving 6 hours to New Mexico for the experience.
In business you have to be different to gain and keep the attention of your customers. It takes a whole lot of self-confidence and belief to keep moving forward. Understanding and the embracing of what makes you different is key.
It is my hope for you, in this week ahead, that you rise up to your greatest strengths while embracing what it is that you do differently. Rise up to your calling and be who you were meant to be! Believe in your number one fan, you, and the others, who are meant to, will follow your lead.
