A Love Letter
Listening to a Ted Talk on Saturday (Valentines Day) about writing love letters, I had this thought that I shared with the Ladies of the Victory Circles on our private FB page. Here is the question I asked them, What if you wrote a love letter to your business?
I did so, feeling compelled to throw the love towards that part of our lives that so many of us spend the majority of our waking hours developing and hopefully growing.
This morning, I would like share with you one of the responses that came from Nicole Irlbeck of Restoration Fitness. An entrepreneur who I have had the pleasure of knowing and working together with for many years now. In fact, I dedicate this mornings Victory Letter to her.
I think she depicted so well the relationship we can have with our business and the importance of acknowledging all aspects of it just like in any relationship. Here is what she wrote:
Dear Business,
Thank you for making me more humble, more tough, more determined, more patient, more connected, and more thick-skinned than I would have ever been without you.
Through you I am given the opportunity to love my own dreams and help others to do the same. Thank you for allowing me the freedom to have enough flexibility to create my family life the way I always wanted it to be, while daily challenging to set better boundaries.
I will forever be grateful for the all the good and the not so great times!!
If you own your own business or feel a deep attachment to your work I think you can totally relate to what Nicole shared here. I know I did for sure!
I would ask the same question of you today. What would you say to your business to share what it means to you in a love letter?
To depict the elements of your relationship that means the most?
To know (as with any good relationship) how it has changed you to your core and hopefully given you many strong doses of self-confidence along the way.
Our businesses require that we breathe more life into them each and every day, so shouldn't we have a caring, loving relationship with all the elements of our business that makes it tick? Just as any relationship needs to be nurtured we need to get back in touch with the elements of our business that mean so much.
So this Monday after Valentines Day I encourage you to push past those critics who may tell you that you can't, in honor of what you can, and have been doing in your business. Toss the naysayers to the side...be "something" as Aristotle eludes to in this week's quote.
I particularly enjoy this week's picture that shares what can happen when we toss caution to the wind. I am happy to report that even after this rose had a photo shoot in the snow (Thanks Travis!) it bloomed beautifully.
