Unique Perspective

there is no greater agony than bearing an untold story

If money were no object would you be doing anything differently than you are doing today? Would you be anyone else other than who you are right now?

It's interesting as I go about my days doing the work I love, every day seems to bring a new twist to the story of my life. Now understand its nothing dramatic or over the top, just subtle little happenings that confirm that I am on the right path of being who I am destined to be.

At times we can find ourselves working towards nirvana - that place where everything is perfect. In doing so we can sometimes forget to stop and fully enjoy what we have in this moment, right now today. Forgetting to honor inwardly who we are and the light that we bring in our work and in our play.

Money seems to be a key element that I see stop many people in their tracks and I know has stopped me a time or two along my way. In fact back in 2001 after 9/11 and the Dot Com bust, I put my work and my dreams on hold and entered into Corporate America. The goal was to gather the much sought after "paycheck" and the perceived safety net it would bring during a turbulent economic time.

For me, this step was when the turbulence really began. The experience was like putting a round peg in a square hole. It didn't suit my personality at all - in fact I felt like I was suffocating on a daily basis. The day I was shown to my cubicle I physically felt my chest tighten and wanted to run screaming for the door.

However, I stayed for a while and endured endless red tape, and meetings that had no results or meaning. I fought for the people I managed, yet never felt like I made a difference. I was shriveling up inside and knew it would change me if I didn't leave.

And yes, when I left and went back to building my own business in assisting others build theirs it was difficult to start. Money was tight, but I got to be me - not what someone else wanted me to be.

Today I spend my days working with entrepreneurs who from time to time get attracted to the idea of a "paycheck" thinking that will fix everything. What I have discovered is that it can sometimes just be a Band-Aid not fully fixing what is out of sync. It just stops the bleeding for a short while.

I know that each of you reading this letter come from a different perspective - your unique perspective. Are you living the life you fully want to live? Are you bringing your dreams to fruition and letting your true self fully shine? Does your work bring you joy and does your joy bring you work?

So as you head out into the world this week I have one request - be you and enjoy every element of who you are and what you bring to the planet.

Here's to all that glitters and brings us our inner gold! ;)
