To Grow or Not to Grow

“Growth demands a temporary surrender of security.”
– Gail Sheehy

What would change in your life if you had the discipline to see it through to fruition?  If you knew in fact that the path towards growth was a sure thing?

As your week begins and you look at the possibilities for growth both personally and professionally that is in front of you, what aspect of what you see compels you create the action required? What allows growth and the change that it brings to actually happen?

I know this is a lot of questions to start your week. However, it’s the questions we ask ourselves and the subsequent answers that we then give and act on that makes all the difference on where we head each day.

Recently I was invited to participate in an online course with the University of London that is being conducted by Professor John Mullins. As this course on Small Business Funding has begun to unfold, Professor Mullins interviewed a number of thought leaders around the globe who have lead many businesses towards significant growth.

What I kept hearing from them over and over was the word discipline as a key factor in the companies that saw their way towards significant growth. This single element has gotten so many companies through the good times and most especially the bad times.

Among many descriptions for the word discipline, these are my favorites:

1.     The trait of being well behaved.

2.     Training to improve strength or self-control.

3.     A branch of knowledge.

4.     A system of rules of conduct or method of practice.

5.     Train by instruction or practice.

6.     Sort out, correct.

How does the word discipline best resonate with you

Would love for you to share your thoughts and feelings in the comments below on how discipline has made a difference for your life.

As entrepreneurs the act of discipline can feel confining at times when we just want everything to flow as it comes to us. However, by incorporating it into our daily routine we can stop chasing so many bright shiny objects and stick to what will assist us the most towards the growth we want to experience.

Speaking of growth, I have a couple of live and online free teaching events happening this week that would only require a small amount of time out of your schedule.  Check them out over on our workshops page.  Would love to have you join us!

So to wrap up for this week – sometimes putting ourselves out there can be scary and zaps us of our false sense of security (as author Gail Sheehy shares in today's quote).  Many times it’s the actual letting go of what isn't working that helps us to focus on what will work and move us positively forward.

Have a most awesome week ahead!
