The Endless Chase

You can’t please everyone, so you got to please yourself.
— Ricky Nelson

Hopefully you have had time over the weekend to quiet your mind and are now ready to get back into action with all the tasks that need your attention.

As you look at your week ahead, what are the absolute items that you must achieve in your life to make you feel satisfied? Perhaps it’s that big project that must be started, the content that needs to be created, or maybe those people you recently met that you want to follow-up with.

It’s great to put together that list at the beginning of the week and feel motivated to get all those to-do item done, but as is true with my own life it seems that there are always a few things at the end of the week that even with 12-hour work days I just can’t seem to check off the list.

Sure, I could work 18-hour work days every day (and weekends too) to get those items done, but no matter how many hours I work it always seems like I never have enough time to get them all done.

It seems like a lot of my clients share this same issue, and something tells me that you might be having this same problem :)

To find a solution, we always have to identify the problem. So what did you have on your list last week that simply didn’t happen? Take a deep breath and think about it. Now why didn’t it happen?

We can’t change the past, but we can create the future. So take an honest look at why you are continuing to see a pattern of certain tasks that consistently don’t get completed each week. Are you avoiding them? Do you not have the skill set to complete it?

Maybe there are other issues that always seem to get in the way of dedicating time to those undone tasks that continue to carry over each week.

For myself, I find that I have a very hard time saying “no” to opportunities that come into my inbox. I feel extremely grateful to have them and always feel bad turning them away. However, I’m finding that these “opportunities” are pulling me away from completing the next book I’m writing, as well as everything else that I already have on my to-do list.

Even random things like my car having a dead battery last week that totally made me shift around several appointments that I needed to be at!

If we move too fast and are always focused on the next item on the to-do list, we can really miss out on the beauty around us in the moment. As the days are starting to get colder, they are inevitably going to lead to the end of my flourishing garden.

When I can’t stop and enjoy the beauty of my garden because I’m too busy rushing around with things to do, I really begin to question why it is that I am even doing those things on my to-do list in the first place.

By taking a deep breath and simply letting things go that in my heart I know I will never get around to completing, I can begin to enjoy what is already right there in front of me each and every day.

VICTORY QUESTION OF THE WEEK
