Changing Beats

a heart can be broken but it keeps on beating just the same

It’s probably pretty safe to say that we have all had our hearts broken at one time or another along our way.  From a love that was short lived, to watching the shattering of a family - as I did when parents divorced when I was just 10 - to saying the excruciating eternal goodbye to someone you love as they pass away.

This month we have been talking about the pitfalls along our journey that can leave us to stop and question everything. Heartbreak sure is one of those falls. It is how we eventually deal with such pain that determines the quality of our lives as well the lives of those who are traveling with us.

My dear friend, Susan, who I have known since I was 5 years old had to say the eternal goodbye to her Mom last week and my heart just breaks for her and her family. Having been down that road with my own mom I know that the days, weeks, and months ahead will be difficult at best.

The thing about a broken heart is that the only one who can eventually fix it… is you. Others can certainly assist with love and support, but sometimes the best thing to do is to give in, acknowledge the pain, and then - just like we talked about last week - allow others to fully support you.

Life is most certainly about shifts and flows, comings and goings, changing rhythms and heartbeats.

I heard along my way as an entrepreneur that you shouldn’t fall in love with your business. As I have had a business or two of mine break my heart along the way, I find it nearly impossible not to let the passions I have drive what I do each and every day. After all, if we avoid things that can potentially break our heart… is that really quality living?

The rhythm of life, like the beat of our heart, changes with each life experience that we encounter. I wish for you the strength and tenacity to withstand the not-so-great beats so that you can fully enjoy the really great beats of your heart.  :)

Until next week… here’s to making your moments count with every changing beat of your heart!
