Be Quiet
The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear. - Rumi
Happy Monday!
Well my friend last week took an unexpected yet delightful turn as I ended up extending my stay in San Diego by an extra 3 days. We are having some remodel construction done and my husband called to warn me that it had gotten pretty noisy at home.
Since I work from home I contemplated going to a co-working space once I got back (not able to focus on work or talk to clients in coffee shops), but then the idea came to pass of staying in California for a few extra days while the nosiest part of the work was happening. My daughter and son-in-law (he is the best) along with my airlines (thanks Southwest) made it an easy decision.
This is one of the real joys of having been an entrepreneur all these years, and with technology being what it is, I can work most anywhere. I had beautiful and quiet places to work at my daughter’s lovely home. Together we enjoyed extra time at the beach when we weren’t working, lots of sunshine, good food, and many, many extra smiles.
In this week’s video I share with you a Book Chat that shares lessons learned from the book, The Untethered Soul. I love this book and while I read it many moons ago, it was lovely to recapture the reminders of how to find true peace in our mind. The reminder that if we can quiet our mind from the ongoing chatter we can tend to have with ourselves, life can be so much more stress free.
One funny incident I thought I would share with you this morning happened on my last day in San Diego. Bailey, Steve and I headed out after we had finished our morning work (they are entrepreneurs and work from home also). Our plan was to have a wonderful lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in La Jolla, hit the beach, and then do some plant shopping.
With all those beautiful activities accomplished and the purchase of some beautiful new plants to enhance Bailey and Steve’s garden, we headed back up the hill to their house. Our mode of transpiration was their golf cart, a vehicle that is so much fun living in a beach town.
Well, the golf cart for some reason was not getting enough amps and lost power when we were almost at the top of the steep hill near their home. With lots of plants and the three of us in the cart apparently it was too much! We didn’t panic (for the most part) and with enough pushing we made it to the top of the hill and coasted down towards their home making it there safe and sound.
I share this with because as Bailey and I talked about it later we both had no doubt we would make it home. We had quiet and calm minds (partly from having such a lovely day) and what could have been believed to be an emergency was handled with ease and even gave us some extra cardio for the day. Quiet and calm minds do win the game I believe.
In the meantime, here’s to a great week and the ability to quiet your mind so you can hear all that you need and want to hear.
